The black horse of private equity is a prime example of the usurpation and destruction of the arts. Free creative expression is no longer self-sustaining and cannot survive against a system of forced buyouts, as the foundation for the arts is not the same as the foundation of capitalist culture (exploitation). The concepts of the ‘shareholder’ and share-owning have been absorbed into popular culture (from celebrity idolization to brand licensing), and birthed a blind and dangerously mobilized consumerist culture.
Things that contribute to blind mass consumerism: any form of online social networking, shopping when bored, buy media (music, art, etc) for private ownership vs public accessibility, supporting corporations, partaking in the financial sector.

Or even something microscopic such as the ability to run and charge your laptop, mp3 player, phone, etc.
